- Illyte comet enters the galaxy and begins orbit around Earth, causing mostly only tidal changes due to its light density despite its size. - Humans experiment with power generated by illyte crystals after harvesting it. - Commonly used to power vehicles, using the dispersal of illyte matter [explain this- it's essence later on and is "harmless" radiation that continuously grows]; large scale usage is reserved for governmental and military groups. Illyte is too inert to use in weaponry directly but holds electrical charge for small-scale, powerful batteries. Too rare of a resource to use in civilian life. The generators used for it rely on pressurized chambers and uses minimal water for cooling mechanical parts. - Unmanned space travel is easily facilitated by using illyte material as fuel. Common people raise concern about how it continues to grow, even at such a slow rate. - Consumerism takes hold of illyte and attempts to commercialize space travel begin in America. - A piloted craft is successfully launched with complete illyte reliance. Usage of illyte runs out faster than projected due to illyte absorption by astronauts facilitated by the low gravity. - A second craft is created with stronger shielding. It launches with a raffle-winner civilian, circles Earth for three days, and lands off the coast of [Australia?]. - Construction begins on a larger scale spacecraft, codenamed the Ark. American government funds the project for future habitation. - Nearing the end of the project, the heads are indicted for embezzling government funds. This late into the project, the staff take over and rename the ship the Wayfinder, shortened to Arkway by the public. Construction pivots to a focus on longevity instead of novelty. - Pressure is put on the construction for artificial gravity; this is achieved by using propulsion to push inhabitants to the "floor", while accomodations exist for low to no gravity situations. To do this, the Arkway is equipped with a large illyte crystal that is designed to self-sustain due to its size despite continuous propulsion. - The Arkway is launched with a team of engineers, two medical doctors, a computer scientist for maintenance. Probably more? Um. Scratches chin... 16 people max, definitely. - The Arkway remains in orbit for two months before proceeding into free-space flight. Hours after leaving Earth orbit, it is displaced into Mukios orbit. Due to constant propulsion, it crashes at an angle. - The crash on Mukios cracks the shell of the illyte crystal, shocking the humans with a massive wave of radiation that instantly begins to reshape their bodies. The ones who live from the crash are twisted into mutas.
