Soshiro Hoshina

Pronouns: He/they
Content Warnings: N/A
Series: Kaiju No. 8
Canon Point: Chapter 107
Housing Area: Upper Nova (Private Apartment)

mistillust Personality:
At a glance, you might see Hoshina as an easygoing guy, all full of smiles and laughs. While that's not wrong, he's dangerous. That puffy coat hides thick, trained muscle, and there's fangs in his grin. Don't let that stop you, though- he has a soft spot for charm and easily finds himself endeared to people who really struggle to improve.

Hoshina can be a bit mischievous, but he's loyal to a fault. Dedicated to one cause and stubborn, Hoshina will hone himself like a fine blade and cut to the core of anything with precision, always analyzing the most efficient conclusion through anything. He's not one to share your secret unless he has to. That being said, it's hard to hide that secret from his hunch if there's even a single slip-up. He's a sharp cookie.

In his downtime, Hoshina opts for either training or people-watching with a nice cup of coffee. He's not opposed to a drink now and again just so he can socialize for his own entertainment. Hell, he'll keep someone around just for fun, even if they're good for nothing else. Training up their potential isn't off the tables if they're stubborn just like he is.

Background:
Soshiro Hoshina, second son of the Hoshina family and prodigy of the blade, has always had a love for combat. It's what was instilled at him from a very young age- pushed by his father and brother, Soshiro was always close to surpassing his brother, always throwing himself at combat. Traditional weapon techniques were passed down to him- everything but the guns stuck. He'd always trained to be part of the Japanese Defense Force, but who had use for swords when fighting giant monsters?

Mina Ashiro did. To clear way for her gun on the battlefield, Hoshina was transferred to the Third Division and rapidly rose the ranks to stand by her side. It was clear his skill was honed on close combat with smaller kaiju- smaller, but still as large as a house. He'd cut them down with ease to protect his division and Ashiro. He was a pointed blade, ready to serve.

But Kafka Hibino was pretty fun. In a slew of high-end rookies, Hoshina was blessed with the comedy of an older, unfit man applying for the Defense Force. That being said, he had an air about him- he was Kaiju No. 8, the only one capable of being it, and Hoshina needed him close. The experience didn't hurt to have on his team either.

Hoshina never stopped training, practicing his fight against No. 8 after a failed encounter. His suspicion was confirmed after his so-proclaimed rival No. 10 invaded the base and was subsequently mauled by No. 8- Kafka. Hoshina was quick to accept this, quick to train Kafka in martial arts once he was certain Kafka would still fight despite the risk to his body.

His rival would not go unchallenged. Even if he was uneasy about it, Hoshina agreed to be its wearer in exchange for valuable information on the enemy. He got what he wanted and perhaps a little more- another rival to push himself to the brink of human ability.

Rewritten History:
Tradition's always been important. The Hoshina family has carried knowledge of many weapon strategies that make exellent combatants, and Soshiro is from a long line of them. Though, with nothing to use it on, the techniques are typically taught to keep the knowledge alive more than anything else.

Soshiro always loved throwing himself into learning them anyway. Even if he'd eventually cut ties with his better older brother, he'd always rise to the thrill of swordplay, falling into it as a natural. It only makes sense, then, that he'd pursue a career in private security, landing himself a job in one of Nova's high-end companies as a high-ranking security officer. Most of his working hours are spent patrolling next-gen equipment and wishing there were more opportunities to actually use his skills.

His skills aren't entirely going to waste since he's seen enough action to be given the amnesiac Numbers Weapon 10 to use while on active duty. Even when he's not on one of his long shifts, he's practicing, always sharp, always ready for the next alarm to sound.

Abilities + Items:
Hoshina's SW-2033 swords are his pride and joy. They're built like a mix of standard combat knives and wakizashi blades. They're only iron, but his usage of them treats them more than just an extension of him- they're his claws and he knows just how to manuever them in combat. With higher unleashed power in his suit, Hoshina can reach speeds that seem invisible to the naked eye, leaving deep cuts in vulnerable spots of any sort of enemy. He's able to wield them with such expertise that he can project his slices a short distance forward.

Other than swords, Hoshina is also trained in martial arts, able to keep up with almost any high-class fighter he comes across. He much prefers his blades, but he's taught by the best, utilizing proper forms and fluid movements to knock out an opponent. His body reflects this. He stays highly toned which allows him to be nearly inhumanly agile even when outside his suit.

He's terrible at guns, though. While his aim is true, he just doesn't have the aptitude for long distance, unable to dedicate any of his unleashed power into them.

Numbers Weapons 10 is a uniquely crafted suit, seeing as it requested to be made for Hoshina specifically. The kaiju that it was made from lives as the suit with a will of its own. It seeks fights, rivals Hoshina at every turn, and dares to oppose him so it can do what it wants. It's not above digging its tail in if it decides to go one way while Hoshina goes the other, or just to punish him, really.

Because unlike most numbers weapons, even if it can see behind itself, No. 10 can't read its owner's mind. It needs to rely on vocal communication instead- which is tough when it likes to employ hardheaded tactics in direct opposition to Hoshina's typical precision style. It loves going after anyone and anything and can only be barely held back by Hoshina- though he eggs it on to sync up with it to rise to higher combat potential.

Syncing- bringing out the suit's full potential- is only achieved through aligning his desire with the suit's. The more they bicker, the stronger they get, the more they align. The higher the percentage of syncing, the higher Hoshina's base desires shine through, and he's prone to impulsive tactics and losing himself in the flow of combat at the highest levels.
